Avalanche photodiodes (APDs) are semiconductor light sensors that operate under reverse bias conditions high enough to trigger avalanche multiplication, producing internal gain from incoming photons. This gain mechanism makes APDs far more sensitive than standard PIN photodiodes, enabling detection of extremely faint optical signals. GPD manufactures APDs across a range of materials and wavelengths, including InGaAs-based devices for near-infrared and SWIR applications in telecom, sensing, and defense systems.
